A new residential area is planned on a formerly commercial area in Dusseldorf, which creates the mediation between the neighboring commercial and residential use and harmoniously integrated into the environment. In the south-east, it is reacting to the existing structures and connecting a small-scale terraced housing development, while in the north-west of the heavily traveled streets, a 4-storey building plus a staggered storey provides optimal urban sound insulation. This building complex along Königsberger Straße and the Schützenwiese forms an L-shaped building that encloses a quiet, secure and green inner courtyard with single-family homes.
Through a strongly structured façade along the Königsberger Straße and the adjacent plane trees, the building is perceived in the street escape as several individual. This leads to a reasonable scale of the building sections and strengthens the identity and addressability of its inhabitants. The green soundproofing loggias, facing the street, act as "green windows" in the street. Despite its high noise protection requirements, the building has high-quality and lively facades all around.
The protected interior of the design allows generous space for the future inhabitants of the planning area. Thus, the terraced houses receive south-facing gardens. Between the multi-storey apartment building and the terraced houses there is a generous open space, which acts as a green prelude to the new residential area and offers enough space for play areas. In addition, large plane trees, which are used throughout the planning area, refer to the plane tree alley on Königsberger Strasse.
